Hi, so why are we uncritically perpetuating the idea that trans men are just woman, who pose as men? Could we not have related the contents of that book in a more critical and less transphobic way?

Ask Matt: Why Do Trans People Make Me Uncomfortable?

Yeah so what makes you uncomfortable specifically is people who wear drag not trans people. The same questions do apply though why does this make you uncomfortable specifically? What does this have to do with you? Do you want to express yourself more? Are you attracted to people who are out there and wear drag but you’re suppressing that? I think this does have to do with you being uncomfortable with the LGBTQ community and you gotta look deeper at your own question and notice the contradictions. “People masquerading as something they are not” that’s not trans people tho more like people who wear drag and most trans people wouldn’t be caught dead wearing drag and if that is your belief that trans people are experimenting with faces or some weird bs your not much of an ally at all and clearly don’t have understanding of trans psychology. The Traditional Holiday was Queer

This was such a fun read. I had no idea just how deep the gender-bending roots of the holidays went, and honestly it makes the season feel a lot more interesting. The Victorian drag parade bit alone is going to live rent-free in my brain for a while. It’s wild how much of this history gets erased when it’s been part of the traditions longer than the modern versions people defend.

Why I support #CancelNetflix. It’s not because Chapelle is offensive.

I quit Netflix after the second Chappelle special. For me, the last straw was when he took off from his standup material and announced "I'm Team TERF." A Black Muslim man should understand that saying something like that is akin to a white Christian man announcing he supports the Klan or says, "Death to all Muslims." It's disgusting. There's every indication that Dave is a smart guy, and yet he goes out of his way to attack LGBTQ folks, with absolutely no factual basis for those opinions. Then the Netflix execs fired a trans staff member for speaking up and then proceeded to offer DC multi-million dollar contracts for past and future content. They expanded his platform and rewarded his behavior, knowing that LGBTQ people won't have enough clout to matter to them. Greetings from the Future! The year is 2025. As we know now the intent was never to decry or alienate or cisgender lesbian sisters. The intent was to point out in advance the result of what would happen should these far-right aligned women cutting their own noses off to spite their faces gain a wider and deeper political foothold. Cristan Williams is a trans historian and pioneer in addressing the practical needs of underserved communities. She started the first trans homeless shelter in Texas and co-founded the first federally funded housing-first homeless program, pioneered affordable health care for trans people in the Houston area, won the right for trans people to change their gender on Texas ID prior to surgery, started numerous trans social service programs and founded the Transgender Center as well as the Transgender Archives. She has published short stories, academic chapters and papers, and numerous articles for both print and digital magazines. She received numerous awards for her advocacy and has presented at universities throughout the nation, served on several governmental committees and CBO boards, is the Editor of the TransAdvocate, and is a founding board member of the Transgender Foundation of America and the Bee Busy Wellness Center.
