ENDA – a Legitimate ENDA – Now Actually Has a Chance to Become Law

From TPM:

Boston.com, citing various media sources, reports that Barney Frank will not seek reelection.

CNN has confirmed the news, citing a statement from Frank’s office, but did not post the text of his statement. National Journal reports that Frank will make the announcement at the Newton City Hall this afternoon.

From the National Journal:

He won a closer-than-expected re-election bid in 2010, taking 53 percent of the vote, his lowest total since first winning his Newton- and Tauton-based district in 1980.

Maybe all of his other usual supporters ran off to Oz.

A Congress without St. Barney is a Congress that will actually give serious consideration to the Employment Non-Discrimination Act – and a Congress without St. Barney is a Congress that actually might not be predisposed against a legitimate (read: non-trans-exterminationistic) ENDA.

Good riddance to the “asexual blob” of institutionalized gay male transphobia.

Perhaps he’ll leave quickly enough that the munchkins won’t have time to hit him in the butt on the way out…

or not.

I’m usually a big fan of your writing, but “asexual blob” isn’t cool. The asexual community has always been accepting of trans people and a recent survey suggested 10% of the asexual community also identifies as transgender.  I’d trust them any day to make inclusive laws and speak up when other groups are being unfairly treated.

I updated it with a link to the original source for that characterization of St. Barney: right-wing lesbian Camile Paglia, herself a bit of a transphobe.  I thought the quote was a bit more well-known but then I realized it is well over a decade old now.

As the Stephen Gobie scandal proved, St. Barney is not actually asexual.

Vile.  You make bigoted statements and then try to justify it by claiming that you are quoting other bigots.  And why do you refer only to Frank’s relationship with a man some 28 years ago?  You do know that he has had relationships since then and is currently in one.  Obviously, you think that it is fun to degrade him by focusing in on one dysfunctional relationship nearly 30 years ago.

How is it that anyone can stand you?

And why do you refer only to Frank’s relationship with a man some 28 years ago?

Because common sense should tell anyone that, as a result of the Gobie scandal (which, by my count, was closer to 22 years ago), he had to make a major deal with the powers that be to save his ass and his congressional career.  He was pretty much neutered for the rest of the time that the Dems were in power until Newt’s Contract on America.

Hey, if we start handing out staffer jobs based on congeniality, you and I better get used to the taste of Whiskas.

How many transadvocate commenters refer to transgender as a noun?

And that’s one trans American employed, two-million, nine-hundred and ninety nine thousand… you know the rest.

I was practically cheering when I heard the news yesterday. Not that non-trans GLBs liked the news.

Hell, I wouldn’t put it past HRC to hire the turd to be Pee Wee Solmonese’s replacement (though I still suspect that all of the conservaqueers who own the organization are going to go with either a Republican – Ken Mehlman – or a token non-white – Stempp Corbn.)
