A Quick Question

How many of the same people who have been villifying Melissa Etheridge for ‘taking advantage’ of gay-unfriendly California law to get out from under her relationship to Tammy Lynn Michaels are currently attempting to beatify a certain HRC board member for manipulating an aspect of Texas law (an aspect which, if the theory underlying Nikki Araguz’s case is valid, is no longer valid) to get into a marriage?

My response at that point is that manipulating an unjust law in a brazen way shows the ridiculousness of that law, and if Melissa Etheridge is using the relatively mild heterosexism of California law to get an annulment, then it’s just as laudable as someone using the blatant cissexism of Texas law, whether or not the operative essentialists have their way and draw the line between male and female with a scalpel instead of based on identification.
